The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe are people of honor, pride…and
Community.
A Chippewa once said that a civilization is not measured by the heights of concrete buildings, but rather its people, and how they interact with their environment
And one another.
CMU is an institution of fellowship. A place where over 25,000 students come together with the camaraderie of a single neighborhood.
The Chippewa Tribe is our neighbor. And with pride we will defend this name.
Because this name represents not only tradition—but respecting tradition. CMU is host to community events such as the Michigan Special Olympics, family fun like Siblings Week,
and the Merrill Hall Block Party.
CMU operates many campus-wide events of school spirit…

We also throw a hell of a party.

Fire Up.

***

Like a Cymbal Crash of fans in McGuirk Arena,
It’s going down—
Get Fired Up.

There’s local bands tonight at Hunter’s & Rubble’s,
It’s going down—
Get Fired Up.

Rainbow Seekers, Frontier Ruckus, Newday Dreamers:
Shoulders of Stones—
Fired Up.

Beautiful Bones—
Gold lit up.
Fire Up!
Fire Up!
Fire Up!

We go to O’Kelly’s for pint night,
The best spot for game night,
Watch the Red Wings, while eating hot wings,
Fire it Up!
It’s Party Night!

Oh, Wayside, Oh, Wayside,
Pitchers of Beer—
Waist High.
Cages,
Stripper Poles,
Hard Grind—
All Night.

Some say this place is a little sleazy, but

♫I don’t see nothin’ wrooong….with a little dance and grind♫
Besides, these drunken undergrads
Don’t seem to mind.

And when the room begins to spin after
The Bell-ringers,
Class is erased:
Revelry is now in session.
Fire up.
Keep it hot and sweaty:
Turn up-Turn up.
Dance-Dance all night,
Fire up-Fire up.

Wayside is the place where when you see a familiar face,
First you’re surprised,
Then you greet and grind your neighbor,
And hope tonight they’ll stop by to visit your place,
You’ve worked the floor now you must put in the labor.

With a designed game plan to get the final OK,
Guys unlock car doors, then soon apartment doors…
Like the big moments in Kelly/Shorts Stadium,
These are considered the
Key Plays.

Get ready to shoot the cannon,
because a lot of folks are gonna score tonight.
Hail Chippewa! This victory is shared
When two or more people divide the delight.

The following Tuesday they run into their neighbor,
One returns from class while the other’s
on their way…
It is more than a customary greeting,
It is a shared remembrance
when
The Chips say,
“Hey.”

SWOOP DOWN!

<clap clap>

SWOOP DOWN!

<clap clap>

SWOOP DOWN!

<clap clap>

SWOOP DOWN!

<clap clap>

SWOOP DOWN!
And LAND! In the land of Green and White!
SWOOP DOWN!
You Eagles, and FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!
SWOOP DOWN!
But don’t ever let your feet touch the ground!
SWOOP DOWN!
You’re flying with the Eastern Eagles Now!

Hear that call? That’s the Eastern Echo:
Here we go—
Here we go again.
Do you hear that call? That’s the Eagle Echo:
I said
Here we go—
Here we go again.

Eastern Eagles grew again,
New Eagles—
Movin’ in,
Move-in Magic—
Make a friend,
Share Fajitas and blend on in.
Make a splash like our swimming team—
In Olds-Robb in a
Stream of Green.
Stay on the green like cash machines,
We stay high on green—
Green Fiends.
Green & White is our way of life
And this Green & White
Is our way to life,
If we told you once, we told you twice:
An Eagle echoes:
His whole life.
Swoop Down, Eastern, and
Shake the Ground;
We kept the Huron strength—
Now let it sound.
If we told you once, we told you twice,
An Eagle’s Echo lasts
His whole life.

Western Michigan University Piece

*Western Michigan University*

Kalamazoo is the only place Broncos
Fly with the best,
Galloping Pride,
when we die—we can rest.
Until we reach the sky,
We’ll keep on Galloping High—
with
Brown and Gold
Bronco Pride.

It’s fall. Time for the Bronco Bash:
Here comes the Stampede—
Ready to Crash
The dorms on Main Campus and also the Valleys,
Then to brown-eyed Susans at Stewart Tower we rally.
New Broncos are set to mark their hash
On WMU Fields with a zeal no census can tally.
Soon these new legs will be the head honchos
And keep galloping in the name of Western Michigan.
Alas, now wrapped around Grand Rapids and all Michigan—
Are the runs of these
Epic Broncos.

Kalamazoo is the only place Broncos
Fly with the best,
Galloping Pride,
when we die—we can rest.
Until we reach the sky,
We’ll keep on Galloping High—
with
Brown and Gold
Bronco Pride.

WMU is the only place Broncos
Fly with the best,
Galloping Pride,
when we die—we can rest.
Until we reach the sky,
We’ll keep Galloping High—
with
Brown and Gold
Bronco Pride.

It’s Saturday. Time to fill up these bars:
Here comes the Stampede.
Kalamazoo nightlife is something special,
Every establishment seems to have a special.
We exchange beers at the KBE,
Waldo’s, Wild Bull, Grotto, The Roadhouse,
On to Y-Bar then off to Stadium Drive,
Then to the Village to pillage a Frat House.
We don’t waste our minds; we also go to Shakespeare’s Pub,
Wasted out of our minds like a 4th string sub.
To be or not to be….
Wait,
What was the question?
All I know is to be anywhere other than Western—
Is way
Out of the question.

Kalamazoo is the only place Broncos
Fly with the best,
Galloping Pride,
when we die—we can rest.
Until we reach the sky,
We’ll keep on Galloping High—
with
Brown and Gold
Bronco Pride.

WMU is the only place Broncos
Fly with the best,
Galloping Pride,
when we die—we can rest.
Until we reach the sky,
We’ll keep on
Galloping High—
with
Brown and Gold
Bronco Pride.

Northern Michigan University Poem

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest. Available Now!

AlmaMater_Midwest HQ

*NMU*

At the heart of Northern Michigan is
A mound of flowers and shrubs laid in the colors found inside all of us—
&
Radiating in our great outdoors.
We are the North Wind of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula,
Wildcats who have followed White Rocks to stand inspired by our mountain trails and scenic coastline. The warm sand and crystal blue water is accompanied by the knowing breeze where at the summit of nature’s bask—
We Crash.
Jet skiing in the wind in a confrontation with what we know is Superior—
In a submission that is rendered in a thrill.
Marquette is a place for nature lovers
&
Northern Michigan is the site for nature’s lovers;
In this getaway of beaches, parkways, and meditation:
This is a lover’s
four-year vacation.
In these hearts are the sediments
found in our mound & renewed in this refreshing town;
These pulse-bracing heights leap from within & without….
It is
Northern.
Naturally.

Oakland University (Michigan) Poem

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest. Available Now!

AlmaMater_Midwest HQ

*Oakland University*

To truly pursue knowledge, you must leave the driveway,
Golden Grizzlies take this road—our way—the highway.
They take I-75, 59 West or 59 East,
Commuting from all Michigan with a gold & black streak.
Arriving from Pontiac, Rochester, Auburn Hills,
In the pace of our campus students find their thrills.
They find their knowledge and learn their virtues,
Living fast is not a vice, in fact, it’s a virtue.
It shows a drive to discover knowledge;
Not only through books, but also carnal knowledge.
This gives Grizzlies in hibernation the motivation to bolt
Through this great land like a Chevrolet Volt.
When you can study hard right then pull an all-nighter in bed,
You’ll learn intimate skill should be specialized, not sped.
Oakland University isn’t just a school, it’s a need,
The road thousands choose to go—at full speed.
Michigan commutes to Oakland in an ambitious drive,
Then park at their new home on University Drive.

Breaking Love

From Art of Mind: Philosopoems to the World

Available Now!

AOM I

*Breaking Love*

“Love Can Move Mountains,”
While still
“Standing the Test of Time…”
In spite of wisdom’s common tokens,
Love is quite Easily Broken.

Romance’s Greatest Poet,
Love’s Greatest Romance,
A Poet’s Greatest Lover:
Are all exposed to the advance
of Flesh.

The Fragrance of Love
Is Not
As Potent as Lust,
This Natural Truth
Is what All Couples can Trust.

It seems their slumbering scene,
Put all suspicions to rest…
Though all this really means:
They’re not yet put to the test.

Even if conscience and
Fraud Records are Clear,
This is only until –
Temptation’s Head Appears.

Frequent requests
From a potential mistress,
Many men could resist,
Now try a Worldly Goddess.

That gleam in her eye
Is only shining for one,
Yet that scream of a sigh
Could be evoked by a ton.

It’s not a question of love,
Or a matter of Faith…
What determines your fates –
Is lurking predator traits.

The most devoted spouse
Can still be aroused
By a face in the crowd
If situation allowed.

Some girls may be Chaste,
And some guys may be Saints,
But one Room for Mistakes
Is really All that It Takes.

The lights go out,
Upstairs rendered dim…
All Digital Control –
Handed over to Him.

Cupid’s Savory Potion,
Is what open mouths show,
But in this unlit Heaven –
Their sweeter juices flow.

This carnal paradise —
No mind could forget,
These illicit memories –
Do not reject regret.

The frame, pillar and post
Crack during this primitive poke,
Vows gone cold without cover –
Merge with all the articles Broke.

To “Break Love” is drenched
In Lust,
It’s a term for
Rebels of Passion…
It upholds that
For a Positive Action –
Lies a Stimulating
Wicked Reaction.

While Couples deny this Test,
so they can continue to be Making Love…
Lovers aren’t just Making Lust,
They’re also “Breaking Love.”

Wayne State University Poem

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest. Available Now!

AlmaMater_Midwest HQ

*Wayne State University*

There’s a new line coming in this fall,
Let’s see how fast this thing goes.
In these four years it’s pedal to the metal,
Our speed doesn’t tire through the reels of the roads.
30,000 Warriors collide,
Burning
Green and Gold—
Until Wayne State rolls through Detroit Rock City,
Then together
We’ll arrive at our goals.

Before long,
We’ll look back at all these fast times
bent to old times,
And know that in Wayne State—
We made the right decision…
We drove ourselves to a critical impact,
Without a memory lost
To the collision.

*Grand Valley*

Lakers, Lead Us
To one of the nation’s
Fastest growing schools.
To a college experience
That heats as the weather cools.
Lead Us
To the dorms where relationships form,
Lead Us
To a land where the
Lakers Swarm.
Lakers, Lead Us
To the greatest Division II Dominance,
Lead Us
To a society directed t’wards Prominence.
Lead us past the tumbles of the Michigan snow,
Grand Valley State Lakers:
Lead us to grow.
Lead us to treat learning as a profession—
To take the passes with the failures:
Each as a Lesson.
Go walk with real friends, not the fakers that mislead us,
Grand Valley State University
Lakers,
Lead Us.

For All the Unwritten Songs

From Art of Mind: Philosopoems to the World

Available Now!

AOM I

Sam’s Masterpieces
Would take the average artist
Many Sleepless Nights…
For him it came so easy—
Just Another Saturday Night.
Each song went beyond the lyrics—
It bared his soulful spirit.
Each year a new hit hit—
No sign that he would quit.
But he left before giving us more—
Departed right before thirty-four.

When he went the Change had Come,
For all Successors to Use It…
The final Chain from his Gang—
Was “Sweet Soul Music.”
Jimi had just begun his shift,
Before he played his last riff…
Now they’re both playing the “Night Shift,”
With great backup they are with.

Karen Carpenter,
Marvin Gaye…
Weren’t done but that’s okay…
I believe like the Commodores:
That the dead continue to play.

Elvis Presley,
John Lennon—
Played Guitars that had them Crowned in advance…
They may be resting in peace,
But their Piece won’t give
Peace a Chance.

This is for the great that died young,
For all the songs that were never sung,
& If I should prematurely plunge:
Don’t question if another line was in me,
You can bet your ass that I had plenty.

Michigan Tech Poem

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest. Available Now!

AlmaMater_Midwest HQ

*Michigan Tech*

My, what lakes the mind can surf
With all the discoveries
We find;
At Michigan Tech, we inspect global turf,
The Land of Opportunity:
We mine.
We build ice sculptures from creative fires—
Husky Fires
Glow in the snow,
The Houghton icescape is
The Great Escape,
A Winter Carnival
The Huskies know.
This is a safe haven for a Parade of Nations
Waving their heritage with gold salutations;
K-Day, Hockey, Skating, and Love, are some of
Houghton’s oldest celebrations.
Celebrate your curiosity,
Celebrate yourself,
Celebrate the purity of Michigan
Itself,
Drink another beer, then down another seven,
Drink while you can,
There’s no Beers in Heaven.
Here’s to Engineers
Who will lead the recovery
of
The Land of Opportunity
for
Generations of Discovery.
