Alma Mater Vol. 2 Officially Released!

The countdown has ended and Alma Mater Vol. 2 is now officially released! I would once again like to thank EVERYONE who supported the blitz advertisement over the past month, everyone who has pre-ordered a copy, and anyone who at any point reads this volume that I truly believe takes the series to another level.

In the coming weeks, I’ll continue spreading the word of the release to try to reach as many new readers as possible, and I also plan on sharing poetry from the Art of Mind series more regularly, and of course, you can expect to be seeing sample poems from Alma Mater Volumes 1 and 2 on the site as well. But today, and the week ahead, it’s all about the release of Alma Mater Vol. 2, a work that from a quality standpoint, I am most proud of. It’s available for only 99 cents and today marks the first day that it has been opened to the public, including reviewers. Be among the very first readers in the world to read the latest installment of a poetry series that invites the nation. This is your invite to the poetry party of the year: Poetry’s annual March Madness. The party is finally underway…Come join us.

Alma Mater Vol. 2: The Northeast Released Tomorrow!

What if I told you that it isn’t just the stars and celebrities that are awarded? That aside from the Grammy’s and Oscars, there are thousands upon thousands who are awarded every single day? Citizens in the prime of their youth who have been awarded admission into a dream school and subsequently into the life they’ve always dreamt of. There are college students who every single day are awarded the opportunity to not only live the life they’ve always envisioned, but to share this life with others. Maybe you’ve been that person. Maybe you are that person. Maybe you want to go back and relive it all. Or maybe you are about to be that person. Whether or not you’ve received this award or know someone who has or currently is, Alma Mater is a series of poetry that celebrates this life through every major university in the country. Tomorrow, we will share the experience of dream schools like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and so many others that each has their own story, and each with their own spirit. 100 schools are again featured in this collection. Some schools are much-talked about and heard of. Others may be a bit more obscure. But I assure you, every one of these schools is the dream school of someone. Maybe that someone is you.

Alma Mater Vol. 2: The Northeast Released Tomorrow!

If you ask someone to name all the schools they can think of in the Northeast Region of the United States, you’ll hear schools like

  • Harvard
  • Yale
  • Boston College
  • Columbia
  • Princeton
  • Syracuse
  • Georgetown
  • Dartmouth
  • Penn State
  • UConn
  • MIT
  • Brown
  • Maryland
  • Rutgers
  • NYU
  • UPenn
  • Cornell
  • Pitt
  • Tufts
  • Wellesley
  • Hofstra
  • Boston University
  • Carnegie Mellon
  • Drexel
  • Rochester

Should they be able to make it this far, they would feel a sense of accomplishment to be able to name so many schools from this prestigious region. Truly, the list reads as a who’s who not only in the Northeast, but in American academia as a whole. But this wide list of schools only make up ONE QUARTER of the schools found in Volume 2 of the Alma Mater series, which will be released tomorrow. Today marks the last day of the countdown that this site has been doing over the past month, and tomorrow, 100 more colleges will be added to the Alma Mater anthology as the schools of the Northeast will be celebrated in the new installment of the series that Kirkus Reviews calls “A Thoroughly Unique Poetry Project” with “A variety of delightfully unexpected poetic forms.” In this volume, you will not only get to experience the above 25 schools, but you will get to learn about so many others. Don’t wait. Pre-order Alma Mater now and it will be automatically delivered to your device at the stroke of midnight.

SIUC Poem – Alma Mater

A little bit over 24 hours before the release of Alma Mater Vol. 2: The Northeast, I figured there is no better time to share this piece dedicated to MY OWN Alma Mater. This is a piece from Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest and serves as the epilogue of the book–with the section being titled, “An Alumnus Matter.” #SalukisStandup

From Alma Mater: Vol. 1: The Midwest
Available Now for 99 cents! (Link Below)

*SIUC*

YES!!!!

I Made It!

YES!!!!

I’m Faded!!!

YES!!!!

I Made It
&
I Graduated

Do I want back into Carbondale?
YES-I-DO,
There is no other campus like
S-I-U!
Do I want another beer?
Why,
YES-I-DO;
It’s
Party-Party-Party
At
S-I-U!

It’s SIU—
Carbondale,
Party School—
Can’t you tell?
We hit the strip like Superfreaks:
Rick James, Bitch—
Dave Chappelle.
Got Pinch Penny,
Pregamed-a-fifth-of-Henny,
Gotta Bar Hop
Cuz there’s way too many;
End up
at Hangar 9,
Ten shots later
&
I’m feelin’ fine!
We had Stix, Gatsby’s, Carboz,
Names change
but
Memories
Don’t
Close:
Talkin’ 80s night at Stix,
Don’t make it back till six—
Cuz after all the bars closed
It was time to get
Don Taco,
Then Wise Guys,
Then surprise, surprise,
Afterparty:
Call the guys.
Beverage Street, College Street,
Flippy Cup—
Can’t be Beat,
This side is ready to play again,
Your team is ready to hit the can,
And if you doubt that we can win again,
November 4—
Yes-Yes We Can!

Do I want another drinking game?
YES-I-DO,
There is no other party like
S-I-U!
Do I want another year of school?
YES-I-DO!
It’s
Beauty-Beauty-Beauty
At
S-I-U!

Just walk around,
See the Deer,
Pass the Squirrels—
Campus Lake is near;
Got the Student Center with fun ’n games
We could bowl off camp’
But it’s not the same.
Got Thompson,
Neely Hall,
Mae Smith gets full when it hits the fall;
New students fall for the nature,
Our golden leaves―then venture
To the Rec Center for Racquetball
Then to Pulliam and Faner Hall,
Because after parties
Duty Calls,
Then Call of Duty
At Schneider Hall.
Break for Grinnell or Trueblood,
Maroon & White:
It gets in your blood.
When I walked the stage
&
Walked away,
It was hard to put these times away,
But as an alum—I’m here today
To say I wish I was there today…

Do I wish I was back?
Shit,
Yes-I-do.
I am a proud Saluki,

Signed,

Clyde Aidoo

2 Days Until the Release of Alma Mater Vol. 2: The Northeast!

Eight days ago, I put out a post that asked readers, “When the word ‘series’ hits your ears, what comes to mind?” The answer for me is the realization that the project and the artist can either evolve or disappoint. In Alma Mater Vol. 2, what awaits is the noticeable evolution and progression of the Alma Mater series. The content goes deeper. The party schools go harder. The verse and comprehensive material is even more diverse than before.

Kirkus Reviews has described the series as “A thoroughly unique project” with “A variety of delightfully unexpected poetic forms.” I see it as a project that reaches out to millions. Whether college alums, current undergrads, or those who seek to learn more about the country itself or maybe just have a love for poetry. I believe this series has the makings to cross boundaries and go beyond just the genre of “poetry.”

When Kirkus Reviews Magazine posted a feature on the series, they informed me that less than 10% of Indie Books make its pages. I can only imagine how much of that percentage is poetry. The percent is likely less than 2%. That shows me that there is valid hope that this book can jump barriers and really help advance poetry through its ability to connect with something nearly everyone can understand the appeal of: College Life. But the potential of this series can never be reached without your support.

In less than 48 hours Alma Mater Vol. 2 will be released. Those who order the book immediately upon its release and those who have already pre-ordered it will be the very first human beings to read the collection. No reviewer or literary organization has received advanced copies. They all will receive their electronic copies with the rest of you. I hope you think as highly of this volume as I do, and I hope you all will take part in this series and help spread the word not only to poetry lovers but also to friends and family who are attending or have attended college. Or maybe even to a high-schooler you are close with who wants to learn about universities in a non-boring way. And who knows? Maybe from what they’ve learned a chain reaction will ensue that leads them to their future destination. The highest honor I, and any writer could ever receive is to influence someone’s future even in the slightest by their work. Please show support and spread the word so that this series, and by extension – poetry— can reach the world in a brand new way.
