What is success?
Well, let us break it down!
We’ll make it real simple,
So listen up, now!
If you wanna know success, there is only one way:
You gotta go
On, On, On to U of K.
It all begins with Big Blue Madness,
You see that sky filled with banners?
It’s Big Blue Madness,
Hoops’ winningest team makes
Big Blue Nation scream,
Come gather ’round,
Here is what success means:
It means Eight Banners,
It means the most wins,
The highest win percentage,
That numbers still extends,
If you want to find success,
you can’t just get lucky,
I reckon it can only be found
In Kentucky.
A history first lifted by George Buchheit’s Wonder Team,
Then came the Baron of the Bluegrass,
What followed was four banners—to commence the deem
Of the best hoops tradition kept by every new class:
Behold the class of ’78!
And the class of ’96 led by Rick Pitino,
Behold the class of 1998,
The champs of 2012 & all the greats that we grow:
Riley, Davis, Givens, Wall,
Great coaches like Tubby—and John Calipari,
It was Adolph Rupp who structured it all,
A school for basketball, all else is secondary.
And even when we don’t bring home a championship,
Our Old Kentucky Home is always in the running,
The claim of “best in hoops:” we’ve taken ownership,
And’ve done so coming on a century running.
There’s been many wild nights in the quarters of Rupp,
And much revelry at Cheapside & Two Keys,
And so many nights where our loud fans erupt,
On the streets and the stands: the Kentucky Blue bleeds.
If you still don’t get it, well, let’s break it down again:
Success is defined by the great Kentucky men,
Inside of every basketball lexicon,
You will find the word under:
“Lex-ing-ton.”
Those who thought they’d find success by going ‘gainst our crew,
Soon got redirected…now
see Blue.
Use it in a sentence? “It is what we do.”
The meaning of success,
read & look:
see Blue.
If you fail…
Try, try again…
but that still is not its meaning,
look again,
see Blue.
