BOAM Nominee #5: Ball State

On March 3, 2018, I will release The Best of Alma Mater, and I will need some help in selecting the crème de la crème. The best way you can assist in doing so would be to purchase each of the four Alma Mater volumes – Midwest, Northeast, West, and South, each docked at $0.99 and free for Kindle Unlimited Subscribers. Because the more pieces from the series you read, the more qualified you are to state whether or not a piece belongs in the “Best of.”

There were a total of 400 poems in the Alma Mater series, 100 from each volume: The Midwest, Northeast, West, and South. As it is now, the list sits at roughly 120 poems that will appear in the “Best of.” Ideally, I would like to cut it down to 100. So feel free to provide feedback either in the comments or, preferably, through my contact link, to let me know why a piece should be left out….or if you think a piece is a must-add, those comments are especially welcome. For the sake of selecting the best piece possible for this collection, if there is any piece that you feel could be omitted, please do not be afraid to add your feedback and it will be considered constructive criticism for the betterment of the piece. I am trying to put together the best representation of the series possible, so I do not mind being told that I could do without a piece either here in the comments through in the “Contact Author” page. On the flip side, when I say a piece is currently not planned to be included, also feel free to tell me that I’m crazy and that it’s a must include.

With today’s piece, I present to you the very first “party piece” of the series. When I thought to write this series, I knew, especially based on the poetry I had published prior to this project, that I wouldn’t be afraid to do it my own way. I wouldn’t be afraid to be unconventional and create pieces that really express what “really needs to be expressed.” And as we all know, the party life at universities is a part of the college life, and this is the first piece that fully embraces that truth. Yes, Ball State University is a party school, and buddy, they ball hard….and this piece, if I may say so myself, GOES hard. Welcome to the party….the first piece of the “college party” of many in the Alma Mater collection.

*Ball State*

We Party Hard—
This Ball State.
Ball Hard—
Party Late.
We Ball Hard—
At Ball State,
Made it to Muncie, Indy,
Now Let’s Celebrate!

We Ball Hard—
All State.
In Muncie you’re in good hands—
We Ball Hard—
Party Late.
Ball Hard—
Ball State.

The home of the Ball Brothers,
We’re all brothers,
We All in the Family—
Sally Struthers.
The Indy Party Scene—We Define,
The concept of parties—redefined,
We even drink before finals:
We’ll be fine.
Open containers—
Toss away the fines.

Ball State rolls deep—
Like, “Any takers?”
We ride like a Lamborghini,
Ya’ll stuck in Studebakers.

Show up to the party like,
“Yeah, this here is the party life.”
Drink hardy
a Delta party then
House parties—we goin’ HAM tonight.
Man, these parties are gonna SLAM tonight:
New York, Carson, Dill Street,
The Chug, then drinkin’
on Dick Street…
Yeah, Ball’s on Dick’s,

Cops want to take our rights,
We fight back,
We keep the Ball filled with liquor
Now it’s ’bout to crack.
We not afraid of cops—
In this neighborhood,
Think they can stop this party?
Yah, they wish they could….

Here come the police!
Later, Man!
Them boys ask too many questions—

We Party Hard—
This Ball State.
Ball Hard—
Party Late.
We Ball Hard—
At Ball State.
Got out on bail!
Time to celebrate!

We had some Jäger’ in the trunk—
got it crunk,
Show up to Late Night—
Already Drunk.

Then we can party safe:
Alcohol Free,
But everyone can see—
We alcohol freed.

I’m feelin’ Free—
in Middletown.
This school’s for me—
It’s my kind of town.
There are many schools,
but out them all,
I’ll make my own chances:
Give me The Ball.
