University of Georgia Poem (College Poetry)

*University of Georgia*

Erect with the Arch are the pillars of Georgia,
They are engraved on these hills as the G,
Glory to their sake, Glory to the three,
They have served Georgia thus so shall we.
In structures Federal and those classic to the South,
Athens has arisen like the thrasher from the oak,
The brave have thrived Between the Hedges and we see
A heritage of pride that Sons of Sanford evoke.
The Dawgs are walked on Saturdays when heading home,
Through the years—to the field—Bulldog Uga has filled
The home team with the drive to fight until each win is sealed
In the SEC until each conference rival’s milled.
Let the Chapel Bells ring as we marry victory,
A commitment long cherished since 1892,
When Deep South football first made its debut,
The victors were the Dawgs and ever since the sport grew.
“How ‘Bout Them Dawgs,” you can now hear locals say,
And what about the Lady Dogs that Andy has unleashed?
And how about the Horsewomen, who have been released—
To break from the reins to six reigns to be increased.
A home for the heart is decorated in Red,
And is filled with Black—long before one fills bed,
When freshmen hit West Campus they confirm what they have read:
There is so much Glory found in Sweet Georgia.
With Georgia on the mind through every year in Athens,
The Bulldogs hit the city; next up music happens,
Play on, Day on, & on through the night,
But as spree just as study:
Remember Moderation.
Let the Arch guide you—without you walking through,
And the pillars inside—to remind you what to do,
All things in moderation—except the other two:
Wisdom & Justice shall stay through each endeavor,
&
With the Bulldogs—may the music
play on
