*The George Washington University*

The facts are in.
They’re in the printed papers of this Colony of Patriots
Who Hatchet the iron curtain
with the arm of
The Press,
The First Amendment is what each speech
in Jack Morton
is first
To address.
It is the sounding passage of the speakers on stage,
transcribed in their very presence before their first phrase.
All GW organizations
From the Dems to Republicans
come together on the position that
Liberty is a law we each must defend,
These opposing sides adjoin on this end.
Regardless of your alliances, we all have the freedom to listen,
so when you hear a moving speech,
Remember,
You do have the freedom to cross over to the other side.

The nation’s best gathers in this capital within its
Intellectual Hub and
Unite nations like the IAS.
We are a republic of “potent engines” filled with ambition
supplanting political power with the public voice.
We take after the monuments of this capital,
Taking the same steps of Lincoln and Washington
to fight for the right to stand apart
as we protect this equal ground.
George Washington University takes command
of this duty from those who pass the buck to Colonials
as the currency of today’s times becomes lifetimes,
and this century converts to hundreds.

Deliver the orders of this nation’s charge to George Washington—
In Us
You Can Trust.

Georgetown University Poem

*Georgetown University*

Oh Lord,

How we give praise for the Blue and Gray,
We give thanks for this school each day,
Our union has won us the right to say,
We are the faithful Hoyas of Georgetown.

Thank You for the strength to take ownership
of our school with a Hoya’s tautened grip,
Frontiers like The Corp will hone this ship,
Equipped for the land of Old Georgetown.

The Students of Georgetown have come forth,
To give thanks for day one and the days henceforth,
Capped by G’ Day on the month of fourth,
Then we bear our gowns with Your grace.

Before we depart, we take off to heights,
Adjacent the Capitol—and other great sites,
Healy, Potomac, basketball nights,
Thank you for teams that changed basketball’s pace.

Led by Ewing, we took the biggest prize,
The ’84 Champs, who made the banner rise,
We’ve had great centers take our school to highs,
And when we prayed for a guard, You gave us The Answer.

Guarded by Your Power—to greatness—we send
Stars to the next plane with Your presence—amen,
We praise these players, but You blessed these men…
As talent’s Highest enhancer.

We ask that Cura Personalis remains,
For future Generations—through our remains,
To the next life when our spirit regains,
The same force while in Hoya Blue.

We ask that contemplation is put to action,
In our government, our clubs, each faction,
In improved society, we’ll reap satisfaction,
When all the credit is due to You.

Please grant us the courage to brave rough waters,
Like our champion sailors who prey like otters,
In the flow of Your song, we pray as lauders,
Boosting Georgetown in Thy righteous name.

Georgetown welcomes all, regardless of faith,
Freshmen arrive and we give them Escape,
To find brothers and sisters—who can relate,
From different backgrounds to all in the same.

Georgetown is Union; Both Into One,
Where teams, dreams, and blue streams have won,
The grounds where Hoyas in concourse have run,
Through great rivers and back to the docks.

In Your name, Lord, we pray on behalf
of Hoyas who have chosen the Jesuit path,
Let trespassers against us—feel our wrath,
Your might & Hoya Saxa is What Rocks.

UConn Poem

*UConn*

Sons of Connecticut,
Beget!
Spawn a legacy
they shall never forget!
Navy Men,
Defend this court,
Let invaders know
This is our sport.

Hold the colors steady and strong,
The Navy & White outlined with red,
Hoist banners of years waged & conquered,
A testament to Husky men who have led:

Commanders like Ollie & Jim Calhoun,
Who in strategy’s belly are always consumed,
Minding the notes of the cadence of shots,
Assuring Huskies have positions assumed.

Captains like Allen, Gordon, and Walker
Remained on guard as UConn’s floor generals,
Forwards like Hamilton aimed and let it Rip,
Finding the targets & winning in general.

Huskies salute to
Connecticut’s sons,
Inside of Ted’s
and
Huskies Bar,
A river meets the mouth at King Hill Road,
Turn-up louder, yell where we are:

A party school with full provisions,
The constitution’s haven within bombs’ bursts,
UConn, found in Storrs, Connecticut:
The Center of the College Basketball Universe.

~ ~

Daughters of Connecticut,
Beget!
Birth a legacy
they shall never forget!
Navy Women,
Defend this court,
Let invaders know
This is our sport.

Joining the men to rule this nation,
Our women in total have won nine banners,
Breaking the record and still vying for more,
Enshrining the dome—Queens of the manor.

Showing basketball’s not just a king’s court,
With the co-ed dynasty of this sport.
Reigning together in 2004,
And in 2014 every adversary
Fell to the Queens who rejoined the Kings:

The 10-Year Royal Anniversary.

The commander of this fleet is Geno Auriemma,
Drilling firm habits into his platoon,
Directing the best win streak in college hoops,
At streak’s end, the winning resumes.

Captains like Ralph, Bird, Taurasi,
Remained on guard as UConn’s team leaders,
Lobo and Walters—Front and Center!
They kept us #1 as the game’s top-seeders.

Huskies salute to
Connecticut’s daughters,
And the best coach ever in women’s by far,
A steady rumstorm befalls the head in The Jungle,
Turn-up louder, yell where we are:

A party school with full provisions,
The constitution’s haven within bombs’ bursts,
Storrs, Connecticut: Home of the Huskies,
Center of the College Basketball Universe…

A space documented and well celebrated,
A legacy our
Sons and Daughters
Created.

Trinity College Poem

*Trinity College*

Your entrance is complete; now drink this all in,
Trinity, where systems stay overflowed,
A flood of emotion and a true devotion:
To Trinity Blue—and Old Gold.
The last incomer joins the outpouring
On Matriculation Day, yes, here it begins,
Raining beer from fall—without a downfall,
Bottoms up year round among new friends.
Friends walk the Quad under the spring sun,
Then go through parties without a last leg,
Party Barns are never empty, which always begs:

Which came first, the Bantams or the kegs?

In the bars of Hartford, we drink it all in:
These moments we all signed on to get,
From the first day—to our last May,
Leaving with what we neglected to forget.

University of Delaware Creative Piece

*UD*

By ratifying the United States Constitution in 1787,
Delaware not only became the first state of our
remarkable country,
but it enabled citizens like the Blue Hens
to wade the river onto Delaware,
Receiving payouts of freedom
in this settlement.
These wings have taken programs in horticulture to new grounds,
and in physical therapy & engineering, our anthem sounds:
“Knowledge is the light of the mind,”
And every soil
Must have light.

This is where American soil was first planted,
Where it was signed that our freedom
had been granted.

That freedom is still found in Delaware today,
You can hear them say,
U…S…A…

Blue Hens rejoice
U…S…A…

This is our voice
U….S…A…

Let Freedom Ring
U…S…A…
U…S…A…
U…S…A…

USA! USA! USA! USA!

UD is where freedom is celebrated every day.
Where we ring the Victory Bell every time
The Blue Hens Strike.
Where the best cheerleaders in the nation show how
Gleeful we are to be here.
Where the marching band twirls the school spirit in the air,
And it falls right into the Cockpit.
GO UD! Demonstrate the liberty of our country!
Freshmen who are new to freedom celebrate by
Revolting Russell’s policies…
Smoking.
Drinking.
Vandalizing the sanctity of quiet hours.
These values persist as Hens move up to Ray Street,
and is a staple in the rooms of Dickinson.
Similarly to the signers of our constitution,
in the party scene, Delaware
Dares to be First.
Including house parties where no one
Dares to be first,
At UD,
No one dares to keep thirst.

There is binge drinking found on Main Street,
Chased up
With Kate’s nachos and Grotto Pizza.
Hens enjoy a warm meal up on Iron Hill,
and wash it all down again with a
home-brewed cold lager.

Main Street is where like our
Prize-winning Cheerleaders,
We give censorship the flip-off.
We remind our countrymen through our riot:
That we are on a strict no-give-a-fuck diet.

This, fellow Americans,
Is the New Revolution:
College debauchery and drunkenness at its finest.

This is what independence looks like.
Fellow Americans,
Let Freedom Ring:

UD! UD! UD! UD!

UW—Madison Creative Piece

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest. Available Now!

AlmaMater_Midwest HQ

*UW—Madison*

Go On, Wisconsin.

Proceed as the Badgers that burrow through this state’s bureaus
&
Mine a line of reform that runs roughshod throughout these United States.
Stay the activists on the front lines who major in change.
So say we, The People’s Republic of Madison.
The residents of The City of Four Lakes who occupy the reasonably radical in march for an advancing nation.

Advance, Wisconsin.

Inform the World with your voice that
War Is Not the Answer—
Only the Dub.

Go on, WHA and WSUM 91.7. Tell them about the havoc wreaked on Mifflin Street that the authorities tried to quell, but in unison:
We Rebelled.
This May Saturday is open to the entire block, and indeed the entire block of the Midwest.
Go on, Daily Cardinal and Badger Herald. Tell them about the all-campus parties that fall in the spring, then seem to spring again each winter, while other cities hold out for summer.
Tell them that Bucky throws a hell of a party.
Oh how we danced the night away at Club Bucky and then jammed till the break of dawn at Buckystock. And like all the other Badgers, Bucky still rises at the morning sun to carry the Cardinal and White flag out onto the field at Camp Randall Stadium.

Forward goes our driving spirit long before the football is even snapped. And when the game endures, our endurance only strengthens, as the stands quake by 80,000 Badgers Strong:
Jumping Around.

You haven’t had a football experience like this before; because you’ve never been in a town like this before. Where the town and school fuse as one family. Blood is thicker than water, and here in Wisconsin,
We all Bleed the Same Red.
When we claim Paul Bunyan’s Axe,
We Bleed.
When we plowed to the Rose Bowl Championship under Barry Alvarez,
We Bled Red.
When we claim the Heartland Trophy and The Big Ten Football Championship,
We Bust Open with Pride,
And spill onto the Kohl Center as
The Grateful Red
to cheer on Bo Ryan’s Crew
&
Never Fade Away.

Kohl Center remains solid on ice,
With the best fans in college hockey,
As in ’O6 when we celebrated twice,
With both Men’s & Women’s priding Bucky.

There goes Sara Bauer! Slashing through the lines!
Wisconsin showers women like Sara Bauer, who hold this town together much like a Mortar,
And the school needs women of wit and verve like Abby Taubner—
The promising
Weekend Reporters.

As visitors and residents remain in awe of our State Capitol, the Badgers of UW inhabit the Memorial Union.
They savor the Rathskeller Ale,
Then snowball fight on Bascom Hill.
These weekends make Madison a college city,
With parties in Ogg, Sellery, and Witte.

Before & after the party scene,
We maintain a spectacular scene.

Hangouts in the warmth of Memorial Union Terrace with kick-backs and snacks.
The students go sailing in voyages of vast & joyous waters with winds of discovery and crashes of camaraderie waiting on the shores. They row, row, row along this terrace, crafting new findings of beauty; and together breathing her name.

They walk along with wildlife down the smooth dirt course of Lakeshore Path: Living in touch with the striking colors of change in seasons, with a breathtaking view of Lake Mendota.

They settle at sweet summer spots like Picnic Point and Muir Knoll to draw in this divine creation.

This is the place where every person in our student body is a member of the Cheese Club,
Because no one can stop smiling.

God Bless this School.

This was meant to be your school.
Badgers, this was meant to be your song.

On, Wisconsin

UW—La Crosse Poem

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest. Available Now!

AlmaMater_Midwest HQ

*UW—La Crosse*

Every year in La Crosse, Wisconsin,
A lantern is hung for the Eagles’ quests
On to the most nationals in Division III Sports
And through our best holiday—Oktoberfest!
The whole town is here for the Christmas of Beer!
It’s the beginning of fall so let’s start the parade!
Tap the Golden Keg beneath the autumn sun,
And drink golden beer under sun and shade.
These giant mugs are in happy hands!
Hofbräuhaus, Old Style, Hacker-Pschorr,
La Crosse Lager and so many more on tap,
This mighty river has flooded these shores.
zum Wohl! Prost! To all the Beer Maidens
In low-cut dirndls and blonde pigtails,
To the lads wearing lederhosen and hats,
And most of all: To all our future tales!
The Grand River Singers & Oktoberfest Singers
Lend festive song to this jolly crowd,
Ms. Oktoberfest waves to the drunken masses,
This drunkenness would make Gambrinus proud.
Sing and dance to our rock and polka!
Eat another brat to go with your beer!
This is the holiday season for all Wisconsin—
Merry Beer Christmas and a Happy New Beer!
Enjoy the fest, La Crosse and all students,
And when you finally return to school…
On your campus and at Hoeschler Tower:
We’ll leave the light on for you.

Dun. Da-Nun-Nun-Nun
GO, PACK, GO!

Give a hand to your Wisconsin Youth!
The next generation that is about to take the field!
Coming home from a Packers victory at Lambeau Field,
A senior at Preble sits with his parents to open the letter that he was too afraid to open yesterday afternoon.
In opening the letter, the soon-to-be Preble graduate discovered
That he will be staying in Green Bay
after all…
And this Hornet is about to fly on to become a
Phoenix.

New Phoenix don’t put off your preparation,

Go Pack! Go!

And when you touch down,
Celebrate by going further:

Go, Man. Go.

UW-Oshkosh Poem

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest. Available Now!

*UW—Oshkosh*

Like an intersection where a child meets her birth mother
for the first time:
Oshkosh is where you and your future meet.
And here we repeat the same phrase the mother utters to her daughter:

You’re among family now.

When you take the black, white, and gold bridge—
It will lead you to faces and places you never knew existed,
It is an opportunity to nurture these years,
Instead of the mother’s cry,
“I’m sorry I missed it.”

Oshkosh has birthed state senators, Supreme Court justices, United States senators, and a
Land of Titans…
So this mighty class is all yours to rule,
Oshkosh is your family now…
This is your home.
This is your school.

UW-Whitewater Poem

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest. Available Now!

AlmaMater_Midwest HQ

*UW—Whitewater*

Love is like a painting,
Its beauty develops with every stroke.
Love is not about the sperm and egg,
It is two souls blending in yoke.
And when hundreds of souls blend together
In environments of love like the Jitters Lounge,
Whitewater believes
It’s a Beautiful Thing.

There will be love made tonight
In Starin Hall, and the chiseled
Six-Pack,
Whitewater is always building,
&
Love is always under development.

Jitters Lounge embodies UW—Whitewater,
It is
Art,
Acoustics,
Community…

Love in Whitewater is like
Poetry night:
It is always
Open Mic.
