*Solitary*

Confinement.
Solitude .
These circumstances I rationalize, When the facts are much more clear:
I’ve been Institutionalized.

Like a stubborn inmate,
I refuse to take the blame… Taking credit for this imprisonment Would further tarnish my name.
No, it wasn’t me!
I was set up from the Go…
The world conspired against me—
I reached out, and they said, “No .”
I justify my sentence — With each stamped letter
&
Eloquent Sentence…
I point out and not to the sky,
Chains Locked on my Repentance .
Though I make a good case,
The Evidence is right in my face:
I don’t want out of this place.

When a man is thrown in solitary,
He won’t come out the same…
The longer he is boxed in — The less of him remains

Not even in General Population —
I’m in this small black hole… Soft hands tried to pull me out — And I dismissed my chance at parole.

Most prisoners take what they can get,
A Halfway-House would Suffice…
If I should leave this hole—I want a Paradise.

What’s more frightening than living in a hole?
Making the hole your home.

I’ve come to expect this slop—
That you’re so kind to serve…
But I don’t want sloppy seconds, So I’ll keep that seat reserved .
I’ve had my chances to flea,
With a decree of “Not Guilty,”
When I saw what arms awaited… I had to Change my Plea .
So I am just a fraud,
I’ve Chose to serve this time… I may be physically confined — But not even I can shackle my mind.

When blue & gold come together…There is a beauty that lives by the river.
It is found all over Eau Claire,
which is why we have the most beautiful campus in state.
A campus where Blugolds intertwine and mingle with the meadows,
Whispering our motto through the breezes & it breaks the fence—
Excellence.
A word morphed into a campus-wide goal.
Our excellence is reflected in those we have hosted
inside our celebrated Forum.
Names of prominence like
Sherman Alexie, James Meredith, Gene Siskel, Martin Luther King, Jr…
Give our students a reality to aspire to become.

When you attend the Viennese Ball, and you waltz to a retreat in the eyes of your companion, recognize that in the background is our Jazz Ensemble—
That gives your love and every limb on this campus
A greatness to step towards.
These jazzy sounds give our feet the distance,
For there is excellence in their measure.

Eau Claire is where you can enjoy the festive college life wearing a gold evening gown to a Madrigal Dinner. It is the regality of a ball of formality, with nature as a necklace with a small-town charm.

Dance on in the arms of your lover.
When the song is over, you continue to sway.
And when you go home, you remember that excellence—
Grab hold of something great:

Play.

Who are the leaders of dedicated world-travelers—driving towards something really, really big?

OK, who are the creators of 42 NCAA D3 Individual National Titles? And 10
for the team?

OK, Final Round! This is the big one! Alright,
Who are the best, most adventurous students in ALL of great Wisconsin?

The host did not wait for an answer, because action is often worth more than words. So to a blank board he gave the answer with an accurate and demonstrative point.

Pointers are answers.
Pointers are solutions.
Pointers are trailblazers.

The Exponent that makes Platteville combustible:
Is Pioneers who settle & set off a spark,
In this Exponent there are particles in each article,
Pioneers who see fires of tradition and hark.
75 years ago our tradition got its start,
Miners on campus who created the world’s biggest “M,”
They lit it on fire like the Sigma Burning Heart,
The flames of every Pioneer—from her to him.
Wider than the years in the Fieldhouse gym,
The flames are visible past the lake in all our blue,
This homecoming site will never go dim,
In our vision of college, this was our view.

This is what every college should be:
A burning that ignites
everything college
Could be.

Oh, Happy Day!
Waking to another Milwaukee day.
Seven Days a Week,
These,
our Happy Days:

A Sunday ball game at Henry Aaron,
Monday we bowl at the Student Union after class.
Tuesday it’s music at 8th note coffeehouse,
Here’s when our weeks begin to go fast….

Wednesday it’s the Rec
to clean up on the pool tables;
Thursday it’s North Avenue and Water Street—
Drinking our buddies under the tables.

Friday it’s a movie at Sandburg,
Then Saturday….
Oh What a Day,
Brew City parties with the beer as confetti;
We dance so long we beat the jukebox—
Arthur Fonzarelli.

Oh, these are happy days,
We live every minute of all these hours,
We will hold on to all of these days,
because
These Days are Ours.

Love is like a painting,
Its beauty develops with every stroke.
Love is not about the sperm and egg,
It is two souls blending in yoke.
And when hundreds of souls blend together
In environments of love like the Jitters Lounge,
Whitewater believes
It’s a Beautiful Thing.

There will be love made tonight
In Starin Hall, and the chiseled
Six-Pack,
Whitewater is always building,
&
Love is always under development.

Jitters Lounge embodies UW—Whitewater,
It is
Art,
Acoustics,
Community…

Love in Whitewater is like
Poetry night:
It is always
Open Mic.

Like an intersection where a child meets her birth mother
for the first time:
Oshkosh is where you and your future meet.
And here we repeat the same phrase the mother utters to her daughter:

You’re among family now.

When you take the black, white, and gold bridge—
It will lead you to faces and places you never knew existed,
It is an opportunity to nurture these years,
Instead of the mother’s cry,
“I’m sorry I missed it.”

Oshkosh has birthed state senators, Supreme Court justices, United States senators, and a
Land of Titans…
So this mighty class is all yours to rule,
Oshkosh is your family now…
This is your home.
This is your school.

Cardinal Stritch prepares us for this life and beyond,
Walking through fires like friars & Observants,
To the Red & Gray every wolf is fond,
And through Franciscan values: We are all servants.
You don’t have to be Catholic to live these values,
Only do what is necessary to reach & show love,
No, there is no appraisal on peaceful values,
Just find the world’s hatred then teach & sow love.
Then to better days these hearts will beat anew,
’Tis better to give back than to receive a royal fee,
Cardinal Stritch is known as the bridge between you and do:
“The Bridge between where you are and where you want to be.”
It’s true that life’s best things are free—and when afterlife rings:
We’ll learn to value the even better things.
