University of Loyola Chicago Poem

*Loyola*

Hail Loyola! The Guardian of humanity and justice,
With praise we’re sheltered in our coat of arms,
Our learning efforts are for a better world—not just us,
In her loving arms you are safe from harm.
It is our duty to guide extraordinary lives
To our promised land in the Miraculous Mile…
Like St. Ignatius we will devote our lives
To our faith like an obedient child.
As God’s children we will yield to His power,
And use His strength to lift our name,
Through Lake Shore, above the Water Tower,
Ramblers in pursuit of spreading her fame.
Hail Loyola! Our Maroon and Gold,
Her storied history forever extolled.

Flip the Switch

From Art of Mind: Philosopoems to the World

AOM I

*Flip the Switch*

When I walked into your illuminating room,
My eyes correlated the Brightness
It may have been this two-fold Ray,
That caused me to be so blind
Rendered Dim,
I was unable to
look any further
The room remained blissful
Still
The only charge was
Ignorance
When I dared walk
to the broader side,
I knew I might gain
Some Insight
Though I was reluctant to see the light,
this was the only way
to shed some on You
I decided to become your company,
even if risking
overstaying my welcome.

The room is undeniably bright,
for my eyes can only be so wrong,
But as your ray shined
down on others,
I found myself
In the Shade.

This light once as beaming
As the Heavens—
Now flickers like a
Domestic Watt,
After being upon
The cold, cold Shade,
I could now clearly see:
This room — while
Open for Others,
Was Closed Off to Me.

She may have set
The Conditions—
but I would leave on
My Own Terms:
I may not be the
Brightest Bulb,
but I too can shade
My Pitch…
Before I left the room,
I was sure to
Flip the Switch.

University of Illinois Springfield Poem

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: Available Now!

AlmaMater_Midwest HQ

*University of Illinois at Springfield*

Twoscore and four years ago,
In this,
Our State’s Capital,
This university was created for our sons of the freedom
our forefathers fought so heroically to pass down.
The very same freedom that has been embedded in the foundation of this house, adjacent the pillars of integrity, honesty, and
Equality for all women and men…
With a belief that every man and woman should strive to be so great, that even the most judicious of men should question this—the most absolute law.
For what is a nation without constituents who continue to dispute history’s limitations of man? Lost stars that we all must break from nature’s bondage,
so that as servants of the links to freedom,
We may chase the vast glory that waits in the prairie.

Mr. Poet

From Art of Mind: Philosopoems to the World

Available Now!

AOM I

*Mr Poet*

I have always found
Your eloquent verse
And commanding tone
To be a ruse as Clever
And Skillful
As your cultured meters
and fitting rhymes.
For the cry I hear
Is not for help
or compassion —
Public sentiment and unbridled expression
lay on the surface of your page,
while between the lines translates ambition,
Insecurity,
A pursuit for validation as much as attention
It is an effort worth a grand applause
And an admiring gleam…
For success is paid in generations
And failure is met with courtesy
And regard…
Just enough to get you through the next page
I have accused your emotions of being
Artificial —
Masterfully Manipulated
to evoke the desired response
Your delivery was lost in your genius lines
and cryptic stanzas:

Message Not Received
I resent you, your motives,
And Everything that you Stand For

* * *

Perhaps as time passed
I may have been hasty,
And If I was wrong —
I apologize greatly
Though our styles may differ,
And that will not change,
That is no excuse
To take motives in vain
I now understand,
And I don’t know why,
But my whole path changed:
Now I’m That Guy

University of Chicago Poem

From Alma Mater Vol. 1: Available Now!

AlmaMater_Midwest HQ

*Chicago*

Inquiring minds want to know:
What is behind this city of wind, towers, and freight?
This freeway of sweat. The Ivy Terrace above Make.
Then the question shifts to who are behind it?
Is it the Michael Jordans? Champions who have defied time and gravity to unceasingly expand the earth with their flight? Is it weavers of words? Entertainers and messengers like Cooke, Kelly, West, and Winfrey? Is it pizza makers? The butchers and architects?
Is it Gangsters like Al Capone?
Or is it Maroons like Eliot Ness?

Maroons inside Gordon Center research, debate,
then prepare to create—
Just as knowledge grows more and more,
“So be human life enriched.”
It’s the reward of discovery, not the notoriety—
That makes the student rich.

As the leading institution of the Midwest,
It is our duty to share our wealth,
Found in this privileged soil of Chicago,
Knowledge uplifted to help the nation grow.

Each morning they rise from the ashes and disperse into the campus that works. A scavenger hunt for stats, facts, and artifacts—a measure that starts and closes at Cobb Gate. The quadrangle nests the informed and the learned, with questers who leave no gothic stone unturned. They feed at Hutch Commons on pieces and scraps adapting masked knowledge to a
Smart Museum of Art.
They occupy 400,000 square feet of science to reinvent and shape this city’s intellectual gem.
And like the Chi-Press & Eliot Ness—
This Jewel of the Midwest remains untouchable.

Subjected to tales of romance

I Wish I Could Dance Like Michael Jackson

From Art of Mind: Philosopoems to the World
Available Now!

*I Wish I Could Dance Like Michael Jackson*

If living a life full of
Isolation & Loneliness,
devoid of genuine companionship
or a Soulmate
Meant having my soul’s remains splattered all over
500 Million others’…
That is a trade
I’d gladly Make.

For that would Make me 499,999,999 times Richer
Than the most fortunate of men.

If I could get through an endless
string of nights of
being a misunderstood misfit
In return for drowning in something deeper
than all the hate in the world
Until something is conceived that is loved
By a surrogate family of every race…
My choice would be
Black & White.

To be an outcast in my own nation
and seek refuge in a foreign land
would be just splendiferous,
If I could throw a going away party
and have the whole world as my dance partner

For just one measly 30-year dance.

And even better
if long after I’ve exited —
My party continues to spin
for partygoers to tuck their heads down
with a hand placed gently atop
with high twist-kicks until a new generation
comes in to pick up the love.

The tears of a Child
and anguish of a Man
would be comforted by
a sympathetic audience
Beholding the thrilling transformation

of pain into art:
Within every single note, chord, and hard-bitten
expression .
It is no wonder why so many tears
Could be found in audiences,
for the pain would physically jump out of my body
and splash into my sea of brethren .
If funerals could have live performances of the
departed
With no eulogies spoken —
Only the raw expression of the deceased found
In his Voice
&
In his Dance:
It would only equal the Power
of
Just Another of his Performances.

Those would be my greatest moves —
With my blood left on the Dance Floor .
To feel the embrace of the remaining
Unconditional Family
Who have Seen the
Bad,
Heard the Worse,
And Read the Worst…
Nothing could Beat It .
If so many millions could share that pain,
Then how many millions share this wish?

I Wish I Could Dance Like Michael Jackson,
But if I could…
Michael Jackson wouldn’t be Michael Jackson —
We All Would.

Princeton University Poem

*Princeton University*

Princetonians, delight! For history is on your side!
Princetonians, unite! Return for the annual P-rade!
The Princeton Reunions bring Tiger pride
Back to Nassau—our first building ever made
To gather for another joyous raid.

We will again take in the beauty
of architecture renowned, Romanesque, & modern;
The Gothic bricks and sculptured fury
Decorate this campus near flowers of auburn.
Let’s re-feel these fuels of creation that burn.

We sip the splendor of senses by the lake,
The sensory conception of Lake Carnegie,
Our skulls are Ovals without Points—unlimited for the sakes
Of refreshing for study, winning the Cane Spree,
And cruising Newman Day—on beer’s floating sea.

The Tigers eat and drink on The Street like animals,
Pillaging the Eating Clubs like a Hot Prospect,
Through all eleven houses—our packs ran the mill,
We ran life’s bill, but hadn’t felt the cost yet,
And lived what was priceless so now we’re all set.

Ready to remember those fond Princeton years,
Everywhere there’s a smile and never a scowl,
Elation in the dance of our gleeful cheers,
Loud as the sound of the Holder Howl
Before dates with the dean leading exam prowls.

Here’s to another reunion—don’t call it a comeback,
We never left Nassau or our Princeton days,
Other schools have assets but there’s always some lack
Of the same opportunities that Princeton paves;
Like our Financial Aid, the Princeton way pays.

The Princeton diploma means the highest degree
of achievement, wits, determination…
The Princeton alumni would all agree
That this is the land where we had our germination,
And our growth still defies—the dread of termination.

Princetonians are the course of history!
Endowing the embryo of American Football,
Carrying the best Department of History,
And a blazing bonfire on Cannon Green in the fall.
Let’s sing in this fire—Goin’ Back to Nassau.

The FitzRandolph Gate we left
During final ceremony—
Opens to every class present a represented breadth
Of Princetonian Pride still on territory,
With praised Ivy stones—in our memory.

Down Elm Drive is the Princeton locomotion!
The 25th Reunion is the steam in the front,
In groups of five the classes cause a commotion
On a train filled with beer jackets, costumes, love’s brunt,
And families all aboard—who ride the emotion.

Fireworks end the fun like a spring Lawn Party,
Our parties of five mix with all the Orange and Black,
Alums from the past have attended partly
For remembering, the rest for the large fact:
That attending Princeton means
You always come back:

Hip-Hip! Rah-Rah Rah! Tiger-Tiger-Tiger! Sis-Sis-Sis! Boom-Boom-Boom-Ah!
Yesterday!
Today!
Forever!
