Maryville University Poem

From Alma Mater: Vol. 1: The Midwest—Available Now for 99 cents! (Link Below)
Alma Mater Vol 2. Available March 3, 2015!

*Maryville University*

Go—Tell it on the mountain,
And over our hills that
Maryville is mounting.
Moving through suburban trails to everywhere,
The Red, Black & White our Saints adorn.
Through the Sacred Heart our start was born.
Now the colors of our hearts spread everywhere.

The Maryville family is moving,
Awakening the lakes of Missouri with sails,
The efforts of our students in scholarship tells
That even athletes with scholarships are always improving.
Our athletes graduate at a rate that shatters
Past records of performance with rigorous training,
Beneath the weight of knowledge in our library hanging,
Our jocks crush & hush stereotypical chatter.
From these quiet trails our Saints reform
A small vedette to vast faith we stand & guard,
Name any unreachable standard,
Then this miracle we will
Over-Perform.

Missouri State University Poem

From Alma Mater: Vol. 1: The Midwest—Available Now for 99 cents! (Link Below)
Alma Mater Vol 2. Available March 3, 2015!

*Mo State*

We,
Missouri State University,
Do solemnly swear.
After the work put in to earn this name,
to make everyone associated with it a proud member.
We will continue to allot funds for student scholarships, so that these students and every MSU Bear can come to Springfield and enhance themselves in our new 100,000 sq. ft. student recreation center and in our residence halls furnished with fitness rooms, computer labs, and a full-access community available beyond these designated spaces.
A community where you can follow your passion until you find your place.
Whether it is a place on our championship handball team with ten national championships, or perhaps it is in our society of Public Affairs—where we are defined as Citizen Scholars—such as the statue affront Strong Hall. In the fabrics of citizenship, equality, and democracy—
We have woven a
Strong Wall.
This wall will extend
Brick by Brick
Until we have created a Brick City.
Where the bricks are more than clay & concrete—
But
Concrete Ideas
That Flow…

Concrete Ideas that just Go

In a dynamic community of
Innovation
Design
Entrepreneurship
&
Art….
An opportunity utopia where everyone has an idea and meets on this common ground.
Idea Commons.
No, Missouri, this is more than a pipe dream,
It is a dream that is coming down the pike…
And oh, this community will thrive on your visions,
Your art,
Our Pride:
Missouri’s students.
This has passed the “idea” stage…
We will see that through Springfield,
The world will be your stage.
No, Missouri,
That is not our idea,
That
is
Our Promise.

University of Central Missouri Poem

From Alma Mater: Vol. 1: The Midwest—Available Now for 99 cents! (Link Below)
Alma Mater Vol 2. Available March 3, 2015!

*University of Central Missouri*

Choose Red, and you will empower your life,
Your name will go far even after the black,
In the roulette of colleges in sight—
Bet on the Red and Black.
Own your own enterprise like David Steward,
Be stubborn for your dreams like a mule to a herder,
Mancow dispatched to Chicago as a Missourian reward,
We must follow & push the envelope further.
At Central, we give the Mules their kicks,
Lending their push to lead a kick start,
Go on to be Bachelors with a Master’s wits,
The world is your target, your diploma—the dart.
After graduation you’ll be prepared to be—
After Learning to a Greater Degree.

Truman State University Poem

From Alma Mater: Vol. 1: The Midwest—Available Now for 99 cents! (Link Below)
Alma Mater Vol 2. Available March 3, 2015!

*Truman State University*

Sons of Truman State take on our name from Beloved Truman,
In the Purple & White—The Bulldogs will bathe,
Like our Forefathers of tested, well-to-do men.
They knew before a man can give a good example,
He first must pass the tests that lie ahead,
Then the wisdom of the father will develop ample,
Following the Missouri son whose example said:
The race depends on this collective education—
Books of history that abruptly become new,
Don’t shut off the lamps of knowledge—collect & case them,
Soon the torch from the light will belong to you.
Then the torch of wisdom will pass to your sons,
As ordained in the dreams of our favorite son.

Alma Mater Vol. 2 Release Date Announcement

(Repost from Yesterday)

Happy New Year All,

May you all continue creating and sharing art in this extraordinary community of ours. I would like to personally thank everyone who supported me in 2014 and for every visitor who so much as liked any poem posted on the website. I particularly would like to thank those of you who like and read posts of mine on practically a daily basis. You are very much noticed and appreciated. Above all, I am eternally grateful for anyone who purchased Alma Mater Vol. 1 on Kindle. I am as excited about this series as I was before I even released the first volume, and that excitement will be carried into Volume 2 of the series.

Those of you who have been on WordPress for a while have seen the numerous advertisements as well as sample poems from Alma Mater Vol. 1 for a long time now (and will continue to do so). Again, I would like to thank everyone who continues to support and like the advertisements and poetry, as my goal is to continue to share this series with this community as well as college students every chance I get. Exactly two months from today, March 3, 2015, Alma Mater Vol. 2 will be released, and you can expect a most memorable collection.

Alma Mater Vo1. 1 was poetry dedicated to the major universities of the Midwest; in Volume 2, we travel to the Northeast, widely considered the most prestigious region of higher learning in the nation.

As we countdown the days to the release of Volume 2, if you haven’t already, click the link below and take the tour of the Midwest in Volume 1 for only 99 cents. In this volume, 100 of the top universities in the region are opened to the reader. Find out why Kirkus featured the series in its monthly magazine, and called it, an “Engaging Poetic Tour of the Midwest.” And in doing so, you will prepare yourself for Volume 2, which promises to take the series to another level. Thank you all for your support, and here’s to a great 2015.

University of Missouri St. Louis Poem

From Alma Mater: Vol. 1: The Midwest
Available Now for 99 cents! (Link Below)

*UMSL*

Tritons choose UMSL because on a day like UMSL Day,
They’ve already opened the future before us;
And they give us a cordial welcome
To where we want to go.
With St. Louis jazz in the background, the youth of Missouri gets a glimpse into the ultrasound of this future life. And unlike next year beneath three-hour lectures, these future Tritons hang on the faculty’s every breath.
Every department is here to tell students like a high-school senior from Overland about the nationally recognized Criminal Justice program.
A student from Lafayette High School is learning about the International Business program, and how like Triton of mythology—
He can advance over seas.
The Faculty and Current Students are translating the UMSL Code for those who next fall will come to understand:
That UMSL is simply home.
In two years a visitor from Wildwood will change places, and stand among the voices of the campus calling the future forward,
And he’ll tell high-school seniors that he chose UMSL because it was days like today, along with full packages of aid, and a caring faculty built on a campus of trust,
That showed it wasn’t these students who chose to go to UMSL,
It was UMSL—
That chose us.

Alma Mater Vol. 1 Available Now

I see you professor, messenger of tradition. I see you bookworm, pursuer of knowledge. I see you party animal, pursuer of parties. I see you jocks and fan enthusiasts alike, pursuers of glory. I see you alums, pursuers of the past. I even see you high school seniors, pursuers of the future, and still undecided on the direction to take. Yup. I see you. And this one’s for you: All of you.

Alma Mater Vol. 1: The Midwest is a collection of poetry that celebrates the major universities of the Midwest region. It is a project that Kirkus Reviews calls an “Engaging Poetic Tour of the Midwest” with “A variety of delightfully unexpected poetic forms.” And it is available now on Kindle for only 99 cents.
